Varginha: The Roswell of Brazil documentary gets 2022 release date

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Documentarian James Fox has devoted much of his career to digging into stories of UFO sightings and alien encounters, with his credits including Out of the Blue, I Know What I Saw, and The Phenomenon. His next documentary, Varginha: The Roswell of Brazil, continues to explore the subject, and 1091 Pictures has just acquired the worldwide distribution rights. They're planning to release the film to digital platforms in February 2022.

Varginha: The Roswell of Brazil centers on

a series of events in 1996 when citizens of Varginha, Brazil, reported seeing one or more strange creatures and a UFO crash. According to the description from the studio, a number of locals, including a group of girls ranging in age from 14-21, had a close encounter with a being described as about 4 feet tall, with brown oily skin, a large head and huge red eyes. The town of Varginha was cordoned off by military and emergency response teams and two creatures were captured. Local military policeman Marco Cherese died under mysterious circumstances after allegedly handling one of the creatures.

The documentary features

interviews with key eyewitnesses, experts and officials including nuclear physicist and professional ufologist Stanton Freidman, Brazilian Air Force officer General Jose Carols Pereira, and Brazilian ufologist Ademar Jose Gevaerd.

Peter Coyote narrated the other Fox documentaries mentioned above, and is the narrator on this one as well.

Fox had this to say about the project:

I’m excited to be once again joining forces with 1091 Pictures on another documentary covering an alleged 1996 UFO crash that many consider the Roswell of Brazil."

1091 Pictures' Jim Martin added:

We’re thrilled to partner with James on ‘Varginha’ and bring this incredible film to the public. The incident remains one of the most profound close encounter cases in recent history."

Although I have a great interest in Brazil and have spent a lot of time in the country, I'm not familiar with the story of Varginha. I look forward to learning about this "Roswell of Brazil".
