Wade keeps it all in the family for Once Upon a Deadpool home release date

Just because the holiday rush is over, it doesn't mean that mid-January isn't a great time to gather your loved ones for some wholesome family fun around the old boob tube. After all, what could be more fulfilling than watching the antics of a fourth wall breaking, cancer-ridden superhero in red pajamas as he and his team track down a sewer-mouthed teen suffering from a nasty case of hot flashes? If nothing comes to mind, that's because you know in your heart of hearts that the movie to watch with your age-appropriate audience is ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL, which is now set to arrive on Blu-ray and Digital on January 15th.

The home release date of the PG-13 version of DEADPOOL 2 was announced via the official Deadpool Movie Twitter account late last night, alongside a photo of Wade snuggling up to those near and dear to his ofttimes regenerating heart. The pic looks as if it were taken at a department store photo booth, giving it a real '80s or year book photo feel.

ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL is three minutes shorter than the film's original version, and includes scenes shot especially for the PG-13 release that star Fred Savage and Ryan Reynolds (as Deadpool) in a recreation of THE PRINCESS BRIDE's scenes that featured a young Savage being told the film's story by his grandfather, now with a grown Savage and a regular Deadpool (Reynolds) reading the story. The eight scenes starring Savage are comprised of "interstitial additions" to the cut-down violence and suggestive content.

When asked to comment on the making of a PG-13 version of the ultra-violent film, Reynolds, who co-wrote and produced DEADPOOL 2 said, “Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006. I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining…”

Here's the official synopsis for ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL:

Wisecracking mercenary Deadpool meets Russell, an angry teenage mutant who lives at an orphanage. When Russell becomes the target of Cable — a genetically enhanced soldier from the future — Deadpool realizes that he'll need some help saving the boy from such a superior enemy. He soon joins forces with Bedlam, Shatterstar, Domino and other powerful mutants to protect young Russell from Cable and his advanced weaponry.

So go ahead, call your family and friends. Tell them that you enjoyed their company so much during the holidays that you want to have them back to your place on January 15th, for when ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL is released on Blu-ray and Digital.
