DreamWorks go to Boo U

Last Updated on July 26, 2021

Today must be ghost day over at The Hollywood Reporter because they’ve got one article talking about three seperate ghost flicks! Well to be fair the article is mainly about one… but it mentions two others!

Now the big bank flick is BOO U but The Reporter mentions a flick called FREAKERS. FREAKERS is a ghost story told from the ghosts’ point of view, in their world. It comes from SURFS UP writers Joe Syracuse and Lisa Addario and well… it’s pretty much dead. The other flick is just mentioned as a ghost-related story still in the pitch stages.

So that’s that. Next up we’ve got BOO U. Well actually that’s what it’s known as internally. Externally it’s untitled. The movie is over at DreamWorks Animation and is already looking at a November 12, 2012 release date. Obviously that date is entirely subject to change. The animated ghost story centers on a ghost who is bad at his job and must return to ghost school. Bad at his job? This could be interesting…

A couple previous flicks come to mind in CASPER and MONSTERS INC… but I’m hoping BOO U goes down another road… a more twisted, darker road. Perhaps like MONSTER HOUSE? Oh and did I mention it’ll be coming to us in 3-D? It will. Apparently all DreamWorks Animation flicks will be 3-D from here on out. DreamWorks have tapped Jon Vitti to pen the script with Tony Leondis directing. That’s an interesting duo. Vitti’s credits include SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, THE SIMPSONS, KING OF THE HILL, ROBOTS, and HORTON HEARS A WHO while Leondis has been behind flicks like THE PRINCE OF EGYPT, THE ROAD TO EL DORADO, and HOME ON THE RANGE. Oh boy…

So what do you think? DreamWorks Animation have really stepped outside the box with the whole SHREK franchise so maybe this one will be worth checking out? Only time will tell.
