The first television spot to Fede Alvarez's upcoming remake of Sam Raimi's EVIL DEAD has just been released, showcasing viewers reactions to the film's Red Band trailer while not showing much else. Check it out below.

In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.”

Ghost House Pictures is producing the much anticipated remake from a screenplay written by Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues with Diablo Cody. Executive producers are J.R. Young, Nathan Kahane, Joseph Drake, and Peter Schlessel. EVIL DEAD hits theaters April 5.

"Oh gosh," says the old lady. That line is the best punctuation that this TV spot could possibly have. On one hand, a viewer wonders why people have their webcams going while watching the TV spot. Are we Americans really recording ourselves doing and watching absolutely everything these days? On the other hand, low-down, nasty horror has a tradition to carry. Does anyone remember the trailers for I Dismember Mama? That trailer and similar grindhouse trailers focused upon audience reaction.

Does anyone remember the trailers for I Dismember Mama? That trailer and similar grindhouse trailers focused upon audience reaction. Producers sold movies by advising potential horror consumers that they might have heart attacks, suffer mental breakdowns, or need barf bags while watching the sordid entertainment. This TV spot uses the same tried-and-true method. And, I admire it for its proven methods. Remember, Paranormal Activity is a lame and tame horror movie (to some horrorheads), yet it used audience reaction to drum up business. Does anyone remember the Dudley Moore film Crazy People? In the film, Moore's character gives the horror movie The Freak the tagline of "It Will Fuck You Up." Suddenly, everyone wants to see The Freak. If The Evil Dead-2013 will fuck a person up, a committed fan cannot wait to see the bad muthafucka.
