Another Inside Man? Nov. 2, 2006

I haven't seen the movie myself so I can't say if its story's outcome warrants a continuation or not, but, despite its box office success, Spike Lee's INSIDE MAN doesn't strike me as the sequel-spawning type. Lee and mega-producer Brian Grazer apparently beg to differ, though, because the pair are developing a follow-up to the film. No word yet on what exactly what it would be about or whether the first movie's stars - including Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, and Jodie Foster - will return to their roles and, while Lee is producing and already working on a script with, the original movie's writer, Russell Gewirtz, he's still in negotiations to actually direct this one. Should he decide to take that gig, he will have to decide if the sequel, over one of several other projects he's considering including the fantasy thriller SELLING TIME, will be next movie he shoots. So what do you think of all this? Make any sense? Perhaps this could be more of a thematically related sequel rather than a purely direct continuation?

Extra Tidbit: According to Lee, Ron Howard was originally going to direct INSIDE MAN before Russell Crowe lured him away with CINDERELLA MAN. Way to choose your "man" movies, Ron.

It's Spike, Inside Man's good, but it doesn't warrant a sequel. For the record: Cinderella is a damn fine picture, and both movies are better their respective directors chose them.

It was like the thief did it all for nothing...I know that's vague but I don't want to give any real spoilers for those that haven't seen it. It actually kind of pissed me off. I got what was going on and why...but something about it didn't set right with me.

I thought Inside Man was very close to amazing, but Joide Foster and no sense of tension for the McGuffaw pegged it down a few. Sequel is a retarded idea.

The flick was just an OK bank heist movie, and it doesn't even warrant a second viewing, let alone a sequel.

I'm sorry, but this is just plain a bad idea. It's a typical move for Hollywood, but this movie...it's like trying to make a sequel to RESERVOIR DOGS. Granted, this movie doesn't end like that one, but it's just so ...
I'm sorry, but this is just plain a bad idea. It's a typical move for Hollywood, but this movie...it's like trying to make a sequel to RESERVOIR DOGS. Granted, this movie doesn't end like that one, but it's just so perfect because it's a SELF-CONTAINED story. It's not really open-ended, and if there is an opening, it would only lead to a movie that has nothing to do with the spirit, themes, or plot of the original.

SAY NO TO IM2!!
