Strike Back below!
by: Mike Sampson Apr. 14, 2009

I won't sit here and pretend to know a whole lot about Dogme 95 movement. I know I saw JULIEN DONKEY-BOY and wanted to jump out a fucking window about halfway through. But Lars Von Trier, one of the creators of the movement, has seemingly left that behind for the time being to film a straightforward (at least as straightforward as Von Trier could be) horror flick.

Titled ANTICHRIST, the film stars Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg as a married couple who are devastated when their young son dies. They decide to retreat to a cabin in the woods where, as you might expect, some crazy shit goes down. If you're prepared to see a naked Dafoe humping a chick out in the woods, click below to watch...

Extra Tidbit: Nicole Kidman was offered the lead role in the film but turned it down.

Dead Birds, from 2004, was straight-to-video, and it's probably the best atmospheric horror film I've seen in years.

But this looks like it might top that.

It just does.
There are horror films from the 80's and 90's that had awesome cinematography as well. The straight to video has little to do with good or even gr8 cinematography case in point-Hellraiser 5............ The Devil's Child /anti-Christ theme or type films are often associated with straight to the bin releases. The clip just felt and looked all too familiar to me.

That looks deep but I have a feeling it may be a bit slow. And Dr.Frankenstein how exactly does that look like an 80's/90's straight-to-video? The cinematography looks incredible and it seemed genuinely creepy.

I like Willem but..
I like Willem DaFoe but this film has the look and feel of a 1980s-90's straight to video Horror sleeper, like I've seen this all before- Doesn't excite me at all.

That aside I'm intrigued with 2012 right around the corner and every other special on the History, Discovery, Learning, and even Weather channel about cataclysmic disasters and the end of the world I think this movie will find an audience. I don’t know the release date but I think they would want to get it out after 2012 hits theaters.
