Just one month before filming is set to begin on the Will Smith produced KARATE KID remake, the studio has hired a new writer to do some "work" on the script. Steven Conrad, who previously worked with Smith on THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS, will spend the next few weeks sweeping the proverbial knee of the original draft written by Chris Murphy. The exact nature of the work (major changes or a minor polish?) remain to be seen and while it's certain to get a lot of negative spin on the web, it's not an uncommon move for a project to get a last minute tweak (what's odd is that the studio announced it). The film stars Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan and Taraji P. Henson in, well, THE KARATE KID. The only differences being that the story takes place in Japan and this one has no Martin Kove (Fatal Flaw #1). Harald Zwart is directing the film for Sony.

The original sucked, personally I think they should just forget about this movie and let it die with time. Why the hell do people like this movie, childhood nostalgia?

A local radio station had Jada P-Smith on this morning talking about her new T.V. show and the hosts asked her about this. Apparently the Smith clan is leaving for China in a week or two so Smith the Younger can study Wu-Shu with Jackie Chan. I was driving to work and threw up a little in my coffee. Sounds like we're getting a disposable kids flick but at least we'll always have the original.

I feel hollywood should do more ripping off movies, instead of remaking then...atleast that way they wouldnt have to live up to anything

Why do you even bother posting news about this film? You know it's going to suck, so why bother? It has Will Smith's spoiled brat son and Will himself as a producer. What can go wrong.

Oh yeah, sure. Jackie Chan can replace Pat Morita any day. What can go wrong.

You're the best!
While this movie will suck, I will most likely have to watch it for one reason or another. The only thing I can hope for is a classic 80's movie style montage with the 'You're the best' playing.
