Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes will reboot Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The color-coded half-shell heroes Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael are getting yet another chance at life, this time courtesy of Paramount and demolitionist Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company. Radical? Or bogus?

While they’re best known for unnecessary remakes of horror classics, this time Platinum Dunes is going for more kid-friendly material with a reboot of TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. The guys behind the updates of NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and FRIDAY THE 13th will bring us the latest live-action version of the valiant amphibians made famous by comic books, videogames, action figures, cartoon series, CG-animation and a trilogy of past films.

The producers are currently seeking a writer to tell the story of ooze-irradiated household pets and their crimefighting martial arts. We can probably expect to see Splinter, Shredder, the Foot Clan and April O’Neil as well. Though I could go for some Krang.

Last year, the property was set up with Legendary Pictures, who planned to use the “face replacement process” from WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE to give the TMNT a new level of expressive features.
