Alamo Drafthouse to host women-only Wonder Woman screening

Update: The Alamo Drafthouse has issued a statement regarding the select all-women screenings of WONDER WOMAN:

"Obviously, Alamo Drafthouse recognizes 'Wonder Woman' is a film for all audiences, but our special women-only screenings may have created confusion - we want everybody to see this film.” - Alamo Drafthouse Cinema

Ladies and ... well, ladies! If you've been looking for a way to get your WONDER WOMAN on without the company of pesky dudes eating all the popcorn, guzzling down your soda pop, and oogling all of Themyscira's amazonian warriors (not that some of you won't be doing that last bit as well), then the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin is your cinematic paradise of choice! That's right, for two magical evenings, The Alamo Ritz will host a pair of womens-only screenings of the upcoming superhero extravaganza!

The announcement for the event reads as follows:

“Apologies, gentlemen, but we’re embracing our girl power and saying ‘No Guys Allowed’ for one special night at the Alamo Ritz! And we say ‘Women (and People Who Identify As Women) Only,’ we mean it. Everyone working at this screening — venue staff, projectionist, and culinary team — will be female.”

Oh snap! It looks like me, and any other individual who identifies themselves as male, will have to find somewhere else to witness Patty Jenkin's highly-anticipated superhero adventure. What kind of world are we living in when a theater will only host female patrons who ... Pffft, you thought I was going to go off there for a moment, didn't you? Sorry, that's not the way I roll.

For over 75 years, Wonder Woman has been viewed as a feminist icon of pop culture as well as a hero to little girls all across the globe. In my opinion, it's only natural that an event like this would be organized. Frankly, those looking to gripe about it (and believe me, they're out there) should probably pause to take a breath and regain their composure. I'm just saying, men are more than welcome to go out and see the movie at literally any other theater in the world as of June 2nd, so let's try to keep the "reverse sexism" claims to the dullest of roars, yeah?

Regardless of the moans and groans from certain online communities, both of the women-only screenings sold out immediately - and that includes the second show that was added after tickets for the first sold out in record time. For now, the Austin location is the only one hosting the event, but thanks to the tremendous reception to the event, more locations could be added by the end of this week.

WONDER WOMAN, starring Gal GadotDavid ThewlisRobin WrightChris Pine, Connie Meilsen, Lucy DavisElena Anaya, and more will assuredly arrive in theaters beginning on June 2, 2017!

Extra Tidbit: Wonder Woman has an invisible jet! It was meant to represent the “invisible” feminine compliance of the time that women felt they had to rely on to get by in male dominated work places. The plane was invisible so it wouldn’t be shot down by the guns of man’s world, a rather silly allegory really. - uselessdaily.com
