Arnold Schwarzenegger apparently doesn't like the new Predator script

04.06.2017

So Shane Black (who actually co-starred in the original PREDATOR) is hard at work writing and directing the upcoming sequel, THE PREDATOR. And, while we haven't seen much from it yet (besides a surprisingly cheesy-looking cast photo), Shane Black has been doing some good work since his comeback with KISS, KISS, BANG, BANG (even though I personally hate IRON MAN 3, I know it was a well-made movie I just didn't connect with).

However, the question on a lot of people's minds was: will Arnold come back? Well, that question has been answered as he did an interview with Yahoo! News. Let's hear what he had to say about it:

They asked me, and I read it, and I didn’t like it — whatever they offered. So I’m not going to do that, no. Except if there’s a chance that they rewrite it, or make it a more significant role. But the way it is now, no, I won’t do that.

Ouch.

So, as previously reported, Black's new film is most definitely a sequel to the 1987 original, and this just re-confirms that. And while it's disappointing Schwarzenegger's Dutch won't be showing up, in some ways that might be a blessing in disguise - let the movie live (or die) on its own merits, rather than trying to force-feed nostalgia. Still, it would've been cool to see Arnold in another PREDATOR movie.

Well, c'est la vie.

Either way, THE PREDATOR will come stalking into theaters February 9th, 2018.

Extra Tidbit: There was supposed to be a cameo for Arnold's Dutch in PREDATORS as well where he'd show up at the end, but obviously wasn't filmed.

Doesn't necessarily say he hates the script maybe just his characters development within it.

Predator isn't Arnie's franchise, so I don't mind him not being in it at al, though having him meet up with Donald Glover's character from 2 could have been entertaining. Focusing on cameos from 80s/90s action stars is no way to secure your movie franchise ongoing relevance, as much as it can be fun for the older audience. Predator's had a fairly troubled history as a franchise, but I keep hoping they'll really nail it and revitalise the whole thing.

My first thought was "Arnold, c'mon..." until I realized Black probably wrote him a joke cameo (comparable in tone to Kingsley in Iron Man 3) and Arnold wasn't feeling it. It was probably something like - the lead heroes visit Dutch to get answers about the Predator, but he's now a crazy person with drawings all over his walls & wearing a fairy dress or something lol fuck that.

I've got mixed feelings on Black as a director

I think Iron Man 3 is one of the most mediocre movies to come out of the MCU (and it has nothing to do with how they adapted the Mandarin), how both it and Iron Man 2 are certified fresh on RT is truly beyond me. That being said, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is good (if a little overrated) and I was genuinely surprised by how good The Nice Guys was, so I'm trying to give this one the benefit of the doubt for now.

I dont

Think hes not saying he wont do a bad/good film or hes being picky. Hes only saying he wont do cameos or small parts. Which i can understand, dude is pushin 70 so unless its a significant part.. he wont bother.

"STAR of Collateral Damage doesn't approve of a script for a sequel to a movie that he was the original star of, because it's only a minor part"... fixed that for you!

Would have been cool

But i understand if it would've been a cameo.
Its too bad they didnt let this new movie be about Dutch leading a team to do some hunting. They could have used the same team he lead in Sabotage with the addittion of Michael Biehn, Stephen Lang and Wesley Snipes

Oh and van Damme, since he was the original predator

Actually Van Damme only had a few of the first jungle scenes and was then recast for Kevin Peter Hall who is 7'2 which looked a lot more formidable against Arnold.

Even though it would have been cool and nostalgic to have seen Arnold return, I really think it's better for this film to not have to rely on his appearance to be a good and/or better film it might already be.

Actually

...Shane Black tweeted an answer to a fan's question about this, and it wasn't the script that Ahnuld didn't like, it was the size of the role he was offered. He thought it was too small. Insert your own family jewels shrinking steroid joke to that one.

Well, maybe Arnie has a point. He made Predator a success. Why should he just pop up for a glorified cameo? It´s simply beneath him.

He didn't have a big enough role in the script or was killed off or something.
