Hans Zimmer is trying to compose themes for Aquaman and Wonder Woman

Late last year we heard that (surprise) Hans Zimmer would be scoring Zack Snyder's BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, but Zimmer announced that he would be bringing along Junkie XL for the ride. Why? Well, why not? Aside from keeping things interesting, Zimmer wouldn't have to work on Batman's theme (that's going to Mr. XL) therefore not betraying Christopher Nolan and the time he spent on his Dark Knight trilogy. Well, at some obscure awards ceremony, Hans the Zimmer spoke up about scoring BATS V SUPES and while he's not working on the new Batman theme, there are some other themes that he'd ideally like to create.

Hans Zimmer, on whether or not he's writing themes for Aquaman and Wonder Woman:

I'm trying. Put it that way. We're in early days. But yes, of course, ideally that is what you want to do.  The studio is going to hedge it's bet if I ruin this one!

I'm not Hans Zimmer's biggest fan, especially as far as superhero scores are concerned, but there's no denying he generally puts a great amount of passion and time into his work. It's worth noting that even if Zimmer does write fully fleshed-out themes for both Aquaman and Wonder Woman, there's no guarantee that the composers who score those respective stand-alone films will use 'em. Hell, look at the X-Men flicks. Those movies have cycled through a few different themes at this point.  Either way, it should be interesting to see what the two come up with for the highly anticipated mash-up.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE hits theaters on March 25, 2016, while WONDER WOMAN will arrive on June 23, 2017 and AQUAMAN will be released on July 27, 2018.

Danny Elfman already perfected that shit, so if you want to bring that back Junkie XL . . . I wouldn't say a word.

The Theme to MoS just added to my dislike of it, Maybe it was just the marketing that kept playing the music over and over again, drilling it into our eardrums ad nauseam so by the time I sat there watching it falling deeper into a film induced craving for Prozac I couldn't stand to hear it any more.

Like some others I don't get the hate. This guy has scored some of the most memorable movie themes in history. while he might not be your personal choice, while he might have scored some movies that were duds, he deserves a huge amount of respect for his place in movie history. I'm personally looking forward to what he comes up with for Aquaman. I won't be seeing Wonder Woman with that toothpick though lol.

What is with all the Zimmer hate here?!

The guy did The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Interstellar the original Pirates... the guy makes themes that dont just melt into a movie, they enhance them.. he creates scores that have personalities of their own... the final scene from Inception, the Organ Theme from Interstellar, the final theme from Dark Knigh Rises... the Pirates theme all are iconic scores with songs that could be singles on the radio.

Klaus Badelt composed the score for Pirates 1. Summer only made the sequels, reprising Badelt's themes.

Perhaps he'll do what he did with Man of Steel and have every instrument on the planet playing as loudly as possible.

Not sure why all the disdain for Zimmer. This guy composed the scores for films like Gladiator, The Last Samurai, Lion King, and Interstellar. All were films that were transcended to even greater acclaim because of how their score reflected the emotions the films were trying to portray. Yes he has had duds like TASM2 but I was a fan of his Dark Knight work, Inception, and recently his work on Interstellar

What exactly does trying mean? He is also bringing back Junkie XL, no thanks because the score for TASM2 was very weak & distracting.

The key is that Zimmer is TRYING to compose themes. Even when he tries, he often fails.

It would be nice if there was some musical continuity in these films. The MCU films have yet to keep a theme past one film. Same with x-men up until days of future past. I don't see why they can't do something like Bond and keep a single theme for the character instead of writing a new one for each film.

Silvestri composed The First Avenger, and referenced Cap's theme in The Avengers. Brian Tyler referenced Captain America's theme in Thor: The Dark World, and the theme was copy and pasted into the opening of The Winter Soldier, was then subsequently jettisoned for the rest of the film. Tyler is composing Age of Ultron, so there will assuredly be some musical continuity having composed for Iron Man and Thor seperately, and referencing Silvestri's existing theme for Cap.

I just hope they keep The Avengers theme from the first film in Ago Of Ultron, I thought it was great & fit the film perfectly.

The captain America theme use was barely hinted at in avengers, was used as a joke in Thor 2, and only used for a few seconds in winter solider. None of that qualifies as the type of thematic continuity I'm taking about.
And I really hope Silvestri's avengers theme is used in the sequel because it is my favorite.

Apparently Danny Elfman is credited on "Avengers 2" as additional music composer.

Anomoly, I agree with you it's not great, but it's continuity none the less. It was referenced a few time in Avengers, also.

I've said it before and I'll say it again

Fuck Hans Zimmer! He has made some pretty great scores, but he's done a lot more very mediocre ones. But the worst thing of all is that he has pretty much done 60% of the hollywood movies since Gladiator. Making them all sound more or less the same. Also 60% is probably a very low estimate if you realize he has this big studio with all sorts of musicians working there. So if a score is by any of these people, it's basically by Hans Zimmer:
Klaus Badelt
Harry-Gregson williams
Johhn

Ramin Djawadi
Steve Jablonsky
Marc Streitenfeld
and the list goes on and on. Once again all of these guys have made some good music as has Zimmer himself. But there are so many good composers out there. Time for Hollywood to give those other guys some work again and not have the same sort of score in every other movie.

Danyy Elfman > Hans Zimmer

On the superhero front. Danny Elfman's Batman, Spider-man, and especially the Hulk theme are some of the most beautiful scores ever produced for a movie. I love Hans, but he just doesn't quite do it.
