Incredibles 2 set to crush animated opening record with $170-180M weekend

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Heading into this weekend we all knew INCREDIBLES 2 would open big after it crushed pre-sale records, and now the first weekend estimates have revealed the movie will have a mighty, superpowered weekend. Coming in well above expectations, INCREDIBLES 2 is poised to make anywhere between $170-180 million for its first weekend.

The stats early this morning show the movie is on the path for a massive opening weekend that is guaranteed leap over FINDING DORY’s $135 million opening to have the largest animated opening weekend ever. This comes after the movie earned the second-highest June opening Friday ever with $71 million (falling short of JURASSIC WORLD’s $82 million).

This is incredibly impressive by any standard and just goes to show you how anticipated this movie was. After the first film came out 14 years ago enthusiasm was still high for the sequel, which was bolstered by terrific reviews and audience word-of-mouth, earning a rare A+ Cinemascore and 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie may take a bit of a dip next weekend when JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM comes out next week, but overall, INCREDIBLES 2 should hold well after this massive opening.
