Deadline is reporting Rob Zombie and Cold Iron Pictures’ Miranda Bailey have acquired the rights to the Steve Stoliar memoir Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho’s House, and THE LORDS OF SALEM director and heavy metaler is attached to helm the planned film. LOVE & MERCY and THE QUIET ONES screenwriter Oren Moverman has been tapped to write the script.

Steve Stoliar's book "tells the bizarre story of the last years in the life of Groucho Marx, told by a young Marx Brothers fan who spent those years as his personal secretary and archivist. The downside of this dream-come-true was getting close to his idol as the curtain was coming down, and dealing with Erin Fleming – the mercurial woman in charge of Groucho’s personal and professional life." Rob Zombie and a Groucho Marx biopic may sound like an odd pairing, however the director is actually a big fan of the legendary comedian.

I have been a huge Groucho Marx fan ever since I was a child and have read countless book on the comic legend, but after reading the book Raised Eyebrows, a totally new perspective on Groucho’s life emerged. I immediately saw this project as Groucho’s Sunset Boulevard and knew I had to bring it to the big screen. It is a sad, funny and very dark tale of a one of Hollywood’s greatest stars final years.

Do you think Rob Zombie will do Groucho Marx justice with RAISED EYEBROWS, or would you rather see a different director behind the camera for the film?

Zombie's 31 is in post-production, and the crowd-sourced horror flick will likely be released sometime in 2016.

Bob Zombie's Groucho Marx - at least 25% more stupid than Bob Zombie's Blob.

I hope there's a role for his wife. She's brilliant.

Considering he's named at least one of his character Otis B. Driftwood which is a character Grouch Marx played in 'A Night at the Opera,' I think Zombie will take the material seriously. Whether or not he'll make anything out of it that's worth watching and/or noticing . . . remains to be seen.

Zob Rombie...

producing/directing a Groucho Marx biopic...is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
But seriously, who's money is being spent here...not mine...I've not even bought a ticket yet. It's not hurting anyone. Give it a chance. Furthermore, I may wait and catch it on TV or HBO.
I agree with Ocelot Snake...if it gets one of the greatest comedy teams more exposure (especially Cpt. Spaudling here) it's all worth the while.
Now if they or Groucho turn up as zombies in a horror movie, I'll

Now if they or Groucho turn up as zombies in a horror movie, I'll really be upset (and probably sue). I do retain the law firm of Hungerdunger, Hungerdunger, Hungerdunger, and McCormick as my attorneys...and yes, I may have left out a Hungerdunger or two.
I'm game...and wish them the best of luck. I'll be watching.

Was Groucho Marx white trash? He will be in this film.

This sounds like Zombie's bid to be taken seriously. I'm all for it, keep him away from anything involving horror.

He's been saying "his next movie" won't be horror since rejects. He ditched the broad street bullies film, because he probably thought it would be too difficult for him. Idk. I'd bet he'll ditch this too within the next year and stick with horror. I'll believe it when I see it.

interesting

I don't find Zombie to be the most compelling of directors, but the thought of him getting out of horror and trying something else is very interesting. Unless he is just going to make a foul-mouthed, white-trash version of Groucho's life.

All I can think about is what Sheriff Wydell yelled at the Gene Shallit-looking critic in The Devil's Rejects.
