Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg provide commentary for the Preacher pilot

We're one episode into PREACHER's first season on AMC, and already people are starting to form some pretty strong opinions about the show. Now who's to say that they won't be justified after a few episodes, but often a show needs a little bit to find its footing and get into the right groove before it takes off… or proves itself to have been a bad idea after all. These things often take time, so, for anyone who is already ready to write off PREACHER after one pilot, I would urge patience, because you don't want to feel like you missed out over a kneejerk reaction. 

In any event, you can get a little more insight now into how PREACHER came together and some of the decisions that were made in launching as it is (changes from the source material and all), thanks to AMC. They have made available the pilot episode, complete with commentary track from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, so maybe you can reconcile why some things are the way they are and maybe get some perspective on those choices.
