The duo behind Epic Movie & Meet the Spartans turn their sights to Star Wars

02.08.2017

Meet the Spartans Star Worlds Star Wars parody

After winning some goodwill as two of the half-dozen screenwriters responsible for SCARY MOVIE, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer spent the next seventeen years turning that success into a series of increasingly terrible parody movies such as EPIC MOVIE, MEET THE SPARTANS and DISASTER MOVIE. The films were relatively cheap to produce and usually made their money back, which has kept the duo in business all this time, and now, it seems that they're set on giving the STAR WARS franchise their attention. Oh boy.

It has been announced that Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are set to write and direct STAR WORLDS EPISODE XXXIVE=MC2: THE FORCE AWAKENS THE LAST JEDI WHO WENT ROGUE. That's certainly a mouthful, and not a particularly funny one at that. The upcoming project is being fully financed by Covert Media and worldwide sales on the film will launch in Berlin. In a statement, Covert Media CEO Paul Hanson said that "Jason and Aaron are a powerhouse duo who have proven time and time again that they are fully tapped into the what audiences love. Their fearless take on pop culture has us beyond thrilled to tackle the world’s most popular franchise with the two of them leading us into a galaxy far, far away." Beyond a sort of morbid curiosity, I can't say that I find anything appealing about these movies, but I'm sure they must have their fans.

With their comedic take on the franchise's most beloved characters both old school and new, Star Worlds will leave no convention, cliché, or iconic moment untouched in yet another hilarious parody guaranteed to make you laugh, gasp, cringe, and cry out while having the best time ever in a movie theater.

Pre-production on STAR WORLDS EPISODE XXXIVE=MC2: THE FORCE AWAKENS THE LAST JEDI WHO WENT ROGUE is currently underway and looking at a Fall 2017 shoot.

Ratings on Rotten Tomatoes
Epic Movie - 2%
Meet the Spartans - 2%
Disaster Movie - 1%

How these two idiots still have jobs in Hollywood is beyond me

I admit the title is funny. Almost as funny as THE 41 YEAR OLD VIRGIN WHO KNOCKED UP SARA MARSHALL & FELT SUPERBAD ABOUT IT.

Definetly sounds like DTV material because i've watched SuperFast and the production value looked cheap compared to their earlier works.

The bigger the budget of the parody target, the worst the SeltzerBerg parody. I'm pretty sure that's why DISASTER MOVIE didn't actually spoofed disaster movies: They couldn't afford the effects. And know they're going after STAR WARS?!

The worst part of this is that the movie will probably succeed

Despite every one of these types of movies winning Razzies and being unwatchably bad, they still draw an audience. Its not even that they are funny cause they arent. Its just a bunch of actors dressed as movie characters running into shit and quoting pop-culture references.

Actually, DATE MOVIE is the only one that has won a Razzie. The others have only been nominated. I wish I have had my membership back then.

How does this site feel about telling fraud filmmakers to go die in a ditch?

Just asking. Has no particular bearing on this article.

I would argue that these movies are cheap and while they aren't blockbusters, they make money back. But actually they dont. The last one to make money was 201p0 Vampires Suck. $80million box office and $20million budget.

2013 Starving Games cost only $4.5million bUT earned a pathetic $3.8million. Their last movie 2015 Superfast actually lost the studio almost $18 million. Maybe it's time these guys retired.

No Thanks

If I want to see a Star Wars spoof, I'll watch Spaceballs. Or the Robot Chicken specials. Or the Family Guy episodes. Basically anything that isn't this.
