The newest trailer for The Book of Life showcases some animated flair

08.07.2014

Earlier this year we got our first glimpse of THE BOOK OF LIFE in motion. Now a new trailer has hit that gives us a better idea of the two worlds showcased in the film. For those of you seeking a little more originality with their animated flicks, look no further than this latest trailer.

At the very least, this film has some major eye-candy going for it. When it comes to animated films, I feel the bulk of them try way to hard pander to their audience and don't give children enough credit as to what they can follow. Kids want a good story like any other. Not every animated venture needs to be MADAGASCAR. With Guillermo del Toro producing, I have a feeling THE BOOK OF LIFE will have something all audiences can enjoy.

THE BOOK OF LIFE hits theaters October 17, 2014.

Why do you think stop-motion animated movies are mostly related to death and the afterlife?
The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Corpse Bride, Coraline, ParaNorman, The Book of Life?

I think because there's an eerie quality to stop-motion and with the right models and designs, it can evoke a creepy or otherworldly atmosphere even more effectively than live-action or other forms of animation.

Starring the unremarkable vocal "talent" of Hollywood actors and actresses who are popular right now but who you wouldn't recognize if they spoke to you on the phone!

I don't know, it looks really beautiful but the animation just doesn't seem as polished as its competition and there seems to be an intent to make the humour more "Dreamworks-y" than it should be. Is Pixar still pursuing their Day of the Dead movie?
