The Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel Leatherface has found its directors

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

We learned a few months back that the next TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE film would be a prequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic and would be called LEATHERFACE. Seth M. Sherwood is writing the upcoming movie which has now landed itself two directors. Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, the duo behind INSIDE and LIVID will helm the horror tale. I checked those titles out on IMDb and they certainly give me faith that they will have a lot of fun with this one.

Here’s the current synopsis:

In this prequel to “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” a young nurse is kidnapped by four violent teens who escape from a mental hospital and take her on a road trip from hell. Pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge, one of these teens is destined for tragedy and horrors that will destroy his mind; molding him into the monster we now call Leatherface.

That sounds like a different direction and a good starting point considering the messy timeline we are stuck with at the moment. There’s still hope for this franchise, it just needs offer something new. I understand what TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D tried to do, but it had nothing to say and offered only pointless clichés. However, the movie did give us an excuse to look at Alexandra Daddario – and that's alright.

When is one of the Sawyer clan going to invent a meat-powered time-machine that explains the existence of the many alternative TCM timelines?

The original 1974 film has been the only one worth the time for me to watch it. I don't have much faith in this one since someone decided to take a dump on this thing every couple of years and has not relented. Probably 1-3% chance this movie is good.

Haven't they already told this story? Maybe even multiple times? I don't know, I've only ever seen Hooper's original and the '03 remake. One of them is one of the most unsettling slasher movies I've ever seen, and one I don't need to see an origin story for. But then again, I'm not the guy they make horror sequels for.

I can't keep up with all these Texas Chainsaw Massacre films. I have no clue what's going on.

On another note, I just wish that one day Hollywood will create a new horror icon worthy of rivaling Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers and Leatherface instead of all these throwaway characters in horror films of late. I guess Jigsaw has come close but hasn't reached the heights of the others.

Fully agree with you. Would be great to see a new horror icon created. Jigsaw is definitely that of our generation thus far, take it or leave it. I wouldn't say he "hasn't reached the heights of the others" as he's just different- the rest are first degree, nightmarish killers whereas he's more 2nd or 3rd degree and more philosophical than murderous.

Hollywood did try to create a new horror icon awhile back with "The Collector" which was followed up with "The Collection". These films did have potential but failed to bring in the audience. Completely agree with Hollywood needing to find a new and improved killer for all of us to love and hate. Here's hoping they will soon.

At least Hollywood is up front....

.....about the fact that they aren't even interested in trying anymore.....

Nothing has topped the 2003 version with Jessica Biel yet. To me, that was surprisingly good.

Someone needs to take a chainsaw to this rebooted franchise already. 3D sucked and I'm sure this one will too.

I think this is the only franchise that gets rebooted every year.

I loved 3d. I wish they would continue that storyline. But I'll check out this new one.
