Time to remake another Hitchcock film with A Royal Affair’s Nikolaj Arcel at the helm

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Alfred Hitchcock seems to be getting more attention these days. There were two biopics made on the filmmaker, and there’s soon to be the series prequel to PSYCHO– BATES MOTEL. There’s also been a need to remake the films of Hitchcock like 1998s PSYCHO with Vince Vaughn and there was supposed to be a remake of THE BIRDS that had Jessica Biel involved.

Now it seems that Dreamworks has found a director to take on their remake of Hitchcock’s REBECCA. Nikolaj Arcel, whose A ROYAL AFFAIR won Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars, will take on the project as helmer. Rasmus Heisterberg and Arcel also scripted the Swedish adaptation of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.

The original film was based on the novel from Daphne Du Maurier, and focused on, “a naive young woman who marries a rich widower and moves into his mansion, only to discover that the memory of the first wife is maintaining a grip on her husband and the servants.” It went on to win the Best Picture Oscar that year.

It’s said that the script will be a quick rewrite, and since Arcel is attached a ton of young actresses are after the leading role once filled by Joan Fontaine.

What do you guys think of Hitchcock remakes?
