What fresh hell is this? It's our first full trailer for Scream Queens

05.19.2015

If you need a three minute example of how Jamie Lee Curtis can keep me from immediately pausing a trailer, look no further than this one for Ryan Murphy's upcoming Fox series Scream Queens. We've received more than a few peeks at the new horror/comedy series but this full trailer gives us a much better idea of what we can expect; camp, bitchy college students, and a lot of screaming apparently. Check out the trailer for yourself.

I knew this was being billed as a horror/comedy but based on this trailer I have to say that Scream Queens doesn't exactly instill much confidence that it has what it takes to pull off either genre. We know that Ryan Murphy can bring the creep factor thanks to American Horror Story, but Scream Queens appears to be lacking in that area. A serial killer stalking a college campus in a silly getup should be a wee bit more terrifying than what we're getting in this trailer. It's possible that Scream Queens may end up being more fun than I'm giving it credit for and I really that's true since I know I won't be able to resist Jamie Lee Curtis.

Here's the official synopsis for Scream Queens:

The girls of Kappa House are dying for new pledges. SCREAM QUEENS is a new killer comedy-horror series from Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning executive producers of GLEE and “American Horror Story.” Wallace University is rocked by a string of murders. Kappa House, the most sought-after sorority for pledges, is ruled with an iron fist (in a pink glove) by its Queen Bitch, CHANEL OBERLIN (Emma Roberts, “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” “Scream 4”). But when anti-Kappa DEAN MUNSCH (Jamie Lee Curtis, “Halloween,” “A Fish Called Wanda,” “True Lies”) decrees that sorority pledging must be open to all students, and not just the school’s silver-spooned elite, all hell is about to break loose, as a devil-clad killer begins wreaking havoc, claiming one victim, one episode at a time.  Part black comedy, part slasher flick, SCREAM QUEENS is a modern take on the classic whodunit, in which every character has a motive for murder…or could easily be the next blood-soaked casualty.

Scream Queens stars Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Nasim Pedrad, Oliver Hudson, Skyler Samuels, Keke Palmer, Billie Lourd, Diego Boneta, Glen Powell, Lucien Laviscount, Niecy Nash, Nick Jonas, and Ariana Grande in the first season of what will be another addition to Ryan Murphy's love affair with the anthology series. Scream Queens will premiere on Fox this fall, will you be watching?

This looks like it'll be a bit of fun for a season. I love that it's a bit of 90s/00s bitchy/slasher. I'm getting vibes of Valentine meets Mean Girls, meets Scream. Also 'Pissy Spacek' bahah, pretty funny reference to Carrie :p

It does what it does..

And it's doing it so well. The camp is truly there, its so 80's cheese I love every second of it. Everyone is expecting another AHS which this isn't going to be.

On the fence with this one

Part of me feels that all the lost energy that plagued "American Horror Story" last season was used on this, but part of me feels that this is going to be too much sass and little too bite.

I want to see the pilot before I judge. Some scenes look horrible while others persuade me to give it a shot. Either way, I doubt I'll watch passed the pilot. I thought this was going to be on MTV but it's on Fox which means it will get cancelled before the season is up.

My 11th grade media horror movie project, which was terrible, looks better than the SCREAM series.

I'll give this points for making me almost believe that FOX has a decent black comedy on the way. Except black comedy is notoriously hard, and even harder on the network stations. And since it's on FOX and not FX, that means it'll be more Glee and less AHS. On the other hand, if Murphy was able to treat the slashings the same way he treated the musical numbers in Glee i.e. ignore plot in favor of killing people, then I'm on board.

Either way, Jamie Lee looks badass, and I might tune in just

Either way, Jamie Lee looks badass, and I might tune in just for Emma Roberts' Queen Bitch. Honestly, I didn't know she had it in her.

Excited!

It really dont matter if it looks great or awful since Jamie Lee Curtis alone will make me watch every episode. I love watching Emma in snotty bitch mode. Just praying annoying ass Ariana isnt in much of it.

Emma Roberts playing yet again a bitch, but anyway this doesn't look scary or funny. Not even Jamie Lee Curtis can save this mess.

Hoo boy...here's hoping this is the rare comedy trailer where they *didn't* give away all the best jokes.
