Aubrey Plaza gets weird in first An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn trailer

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

I defy you to name me a stranger, more irreverent modern comedy than 2016’s THE GREASY STRANGLER. Go ahead, I'll wait. The only movie that may have a shot at meeting such a high bar is director Jim Hosking’s follow-up, AN EVENING WITH BEVERLY LUFF LINN starring Aubrey Plaza. You can get a taste of the absurdity above with the first trailer – which I would try to describe – but it’s best to just see for yourself.

The movie comes off like Jared Hess’ NAPOLEON DYNAMITE if it went on a peyote trip in the desert for seven straight days, which is kind of perfect because this seems like something that’s best enjoyed with the help of some narcotics. The flick also stars Jemaine Clement, Emile Hirsch, and Craig Robinson, and it premiered at Sundance earlier this year, although to less-favorable reviews than STRANGLER. Universal Pictures will distribute the movie in select theaters and VOD and Digital on October 19.

Even the smallest of plot synopsis would help here:

Lulu Danger's [Aubrey Plaza] unsatisfying marriage takes a turn for the worse when a mysterious man from her past comes to town to perform an event called "An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn; For One Magical Night Only.”
