Daniel Radcliffe has been jumping all over the map with his role choices since completing the HARRY POTTER franchise. Whether it be drama (KILL YOUR DARLINGS), horror (THE WOMAN IN BLACK), or the upcoming movies HORNS and FRANKENSTEIN, Radcliffe is intent to prove his chops outside of roles that require witchcraft or wizardry. His latest genre is the romantic comedy.

Radcliffe stars in WHAT IF (previously titled THE F WORD) opposite Zoe Kazan in which they play a pair of friends who develop feelings for one another despite one of them being in a relationship.

WHAT IF is the story of medical school dropout Wallace (Daniel Radcliffe), who's been repeatedly burned by bad relationships. So while everyone around him, including his roommate Allan (Adam Driver) seems to be finding the perfect partner (Mackenzie Davis), Wallace decides to put his love life on hold. It is then that he meets Chantry (Zoe Kazan) an animator who lives with her longtime boyfriend Ben (Rafe Spall). Wallace and Chantry form an instant connection, striking up a close friendship. Still, there is no denying the chemistry between them, leading the pair to wonder, what if the love of your life is actually your best friend?

Now, the romantic comedy has become a joke over the last several years, but every now and then a decent movie peeks out and gives hope that the genre can still be viable. WHAT IF absolutely looks like it follows the main beats of every romantic comedy out there, but as our own Chris Bumbray pointed out when he reviewed the film at TIFF last year, this movie "has real breakout potential, and hopefully it'll find it's audience.". I am just glad that they let Radcliffe keep his British accent in this one.
