COMIC CON: The Visionaries panel with JJ Abrams and Joss Whedon

Last Updated on February 18, 2026

The following is what happens when visionary directors JJ Abrams (LOST, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: III, and STAR TREK) and Joss Whedon (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, FIREFLY, SERENITY, DOLLHOUSE, and the upcoming THE AVENGERS) join the stage in Hall H as they headline Entertainment Weekly’s The Visionaries panel. Hold on to your butts folks, this is gonna be epic!

The big news to come out of this panel were pretty damn big. For example…

  • Joss Whedon officially announces that he will be directing THE AVENGERS (though he’s still writing a draft of it at this point).
  • JJ Abrams starts shooting SUPER 8 in September. Again, he couldn’t say anything because there’s nothing to tell at this point.
  • Whedon’s CABIN IN THE WOODS is going to be in 3D because it’s the popular thing to do. If it were up to him, it would stay in 2D.
  • Abrams liked how LOST ended and he couldn’t be happier with the finale.
