On the one hand, financially, David Ayer’s Suicide Squad is the clear winner, grossing $746 million worldwide compared to The Suicide Squad’s disastrous $167 million. However, the latter came out simultaneously in theatres and on HBO Max and at the height of the Delta Variant surge that saw many theatres shutter. Critically, The Suicide Squad is the champ with a 90% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes vs Suicide Squad’s 26%.
