HBO Max and Cartoon Network have ordered a new Batman animated series and Bruce Timm, who was a co-creator of Batman: The Animated Series, is set as an executive producer.

Titled Batman: Caped Crusader, the project will also be executive produced by J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves, the latter of which is the director behind the upcoming release of The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. The trio had this to say about bringing a new Batman animated series to life:

"We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City. The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world."

Batman: The Animated Series is widely considered one of the best comic book animated shows of all time. Originally airing on Fox Kids from 1992-1995 for a total of 85 episodes, Kevin Conroy famously voiced the Dark Knight on the animated series and it featured a host of other memorable vocal talents. Mark Hamill was also involved as the voice of The Joker and he was joined by Adrienne Barbeau as Catwoman and Efrem Zimbalist Jr. as Alfred, to name a few. Bruce Timm was also responsible for creating the character of Harley Quinn, who launched officially on the series and was introduced during the series' first season.
