The CW has certainly become the bright bastion of DC television properties over the last decade. What began with Arrow quickly grew into a television multiverse that included The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, and Batwoman. Well you can now add Stargirl to that list and in anticipation of the upcoming show, the CW just released its first official trailer.
For those of you unfamiliar with the character or the story, Stargirl follows, a high school sophomore, Courtney Whitmore, who discovers a powerful cosmic staff and, after learning that her step-father used to be a hero sidekick, becomes the inspiration for a new generation of superheroes. The step-father and sidekick in this case is played by OLD SCHOOL alum Owen Wilson with Amy Smart set to play Courtney's mother Barbara. Seems like just yesterday I was watching Smart in VARSITY BLUES. Now she's playing a Mom to a teenager? Man I'm getting old.
Brec Bassinger (47 METERS DOWN: UNCAGED) takes on the title role in the series which looks to be equal parts high school melodrama and superhero story. Can't say I know too much about the character but the trailer looks fun and the CW feels like the perfect home for a show like this.
Stargirl starring Brec Bassinger, Owen Wilson, Amy Smart, Yvette Monreal, and Joy Osmanski dazzles its way onto the CW in Spring 2020.
