Fox/Scott pick Passage

It always baffles me when a movie studio, and in this case two movie studios, decide they want to bid and purchase the adaptation rights to novels that haven’t even been published yet! Such is the case with Fox Atomic and Scott Free, who have picked up the film rights to the yet-to-be-published vampire novel THE PASSAGE, from writer Jordan Ainsley.

THE PASSAGE is actually going to be a trilogy of novels, which likely means (if successful), it’ll be a trilogy of movies of as well. The story sounds pretty dope though, as it goes a little something like this: When terminally ill cancer patients get healthy after being bitten by bats in South America, the government conducts secret tests with human subjects to see if a virus can cure illness. Instead, it unleashes a swarm of bloodthirsty vampires out of the test subjects, which include death row inmates.

Nice! Death row inmate vampires! I’m so there! No word on whether Ridley Scott was interested enough to direct this beast, but he was interested enough to acquire the film rights, so it’d definitely a possibility. How cool would that be? An apocalyptic vampire movie from Ridley Scott? I think I’d poop myself in sheer excitement if that actually happened.

The first book in the series is looking at a summer… 2009… release date. Stick around here for more updates on the movie (which obviously won’t happen for a few years) as we hear it!
