Is the Jurassic World sequel using the dinos with guns idea?

Just imagine if the raptors in that picture could carry guns…

They might gain the ability to in the next JURASSIC PARK/WORLD movie. I have trouble believing this could be the case, but the internet has put the possibility out there: the sequel to JURASSIC WORLD may be delving into an idea first presented in a "JURASSIC PARK 4" script written by William Monahan and John Sayles a decade ago. The idea of someone genetically modifying dinosaurs to turn them into gun-toting soldiers. You can see some concept art for the creatures featured in that script over HERE.

A website called My Entertainment World is where this possibility comes from. They have the upcoming production of JURASSIC WORLD 2 (as it's being called for now) listed on their site, saying that filming will take place in Hawaii, London, and Brecon Beacons, Wales, with shooting scheduled to begin on February 27th. Included in this listing is a story synopsis:

The adventures at the Jurassic World resort and theme park continue as the government has trained dinosaurs to carry weapons and use them for battle purposes.

Of course, My Entertainment World could have just used an old JURASSIC PARK 4 synopsis as the source for this, but why would they reach back that far?

I find it hard to believe that JURASSIC WORLD 2 would bring this idea back, because JURASSIC WORLD director Colin Trevorrow was not that enthusiastic about it. As he said on the Jurassic Outpost podcast,

I’m not that interested in militarized dinosaurs, at least not in practice. I liked it in theory as the pipe dream of a lunatic. When that idea was first presented to me as part of an earlier script it was something that the character that ended up being Owen was for, that he supported, something that he was actively doing even at the beginning. Derek (screenwriter Derek Connolly) and I, one of our first reactions was, ‘No if anyone’s gonna militarize raptors that’s what the bad guy does, he’s insane.’"

So it doesn't sound like Trevorrow would want gun-toting dinosaurs in the movie, and while he's not returning to direct JURASSIC WORLD 2, handing the reins over to J.A. Bayona, he is still on board the sequel as a screenwriter (with Derek Connolly) and executive producer.

However, if Trevorrow, Connolly, and Bayona have decided they really do want to take the sequel in this direction, I'm all for it. I've always been fascinated by the idea of that Monahan/Sayles script, the concept of dinosaur/human/dog hybrids carrying guns is so bugnuts I just have to see it on the screen.

That's probably not what we're going to see in JURASSIC WORLD 2. But My Entertainment World thinks it could be.

And if they're not going to use that "dinos with guns" idea, they should slide it over to Roger Corman for CARNOSAUR 4.

Whatever the story is, JURASSIC WORLD 2 is set to star Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Ted Levine, and James Cromwell. The film will be released on June 22, 2018.
