Shout! Takes on new animated H.P. Lovecraft film

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Hell, animated Lovecraft is still bound to be better than most live-action horror…

Shout! Factory certainly feels that way, as news has come down that the company will join Arcana Studios in adapting HOWARD LOVECRAFT AND THE FROZEN KINGDOM into an aninmated feature. Shout! will distribute the film in the U.S. and Canada across all possible screening platforms when the flick likely hits next year.

Based on the graphic novel of the same name, THE FROZEN KINGDOM picks up:

After visiting his father in Arkham Sanitarium, young Howard Lovecraft ignores his father's warning and uses the legendary Necronomicon to open a portal to a strange, frozen world filled with horrifying creatures and grave danger.

The plan is to introduce a whole new, younger generation to the preeminent horror scribe of the 1920s. Lovecraft was the Stephen King of his day, and if it takes a ghastly cartoon to remind everyone of that fact, then we're all for it. Hell, if a GOOSEBUMPS movie got made, why not animated Lovecraft? Arcana founder Sean Patrick O'Reilly will write and direct the flick, with casting announcements to come soon. I personally think they should get King to do a voice.

What says you?
