I Am Groot trailer: Groot embarks on several misadventures for the Disney+ series

Last Updated on July 24, 2022

On Friday, Marvel Studios unveiled their first I Am Groot trailer at San Diego Comic-Con, featuring the pint-sized Guardian of the Galaxy experiencing several misadventures. After being given a break from The Mandalorian’s Grogu, Disney is ready to attack your heartstrings with another adorable character misbehaving across the galaxy. The I Am Groot trailer gives us our first honest look at the animated spinoff featuring a character of few words.

At the panel, Marvel revealed that after the initial five animated shorts premiere in August, I Am Groot will return with additional episodes later.

In the I Am Groot trailer, we witness “Baby Groot” stumbling upon a tiny alien race that mistakes him for a threat. In the throes of fear, Groot nervously farts a leaf from his bark-covered butt. The aliens begin munching on the flatulent foilage, and the day is saved. Yeah. Soon, the trailer turns into an all-out dance part as Groot boogies down, sneaks around in pajamas, plays dress-up, and takes advantage of a hot spring. The footage is vibrant, colorful, fun, and targeted at audiences of all ages.

Each of the five shorts explores a different point in Groot’s childhood. Ryan Little, who served as a script coordinator and writer on What If…?, created I Am Groot and wrote the series. Kirsten Lepore directs and executive produces with Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Guardians of the Galaxy film director James Gunn.

I Am Groot is one of two Guardians of the Galaxy spinoffs premiering on Disney+ this year. Marvel also plans on bringing The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special to the streamer ahead of the theatrical release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
