Independence Day sequel casts lead; Goldblum and Hemsworth confirmed

UPDATE: Director Roland Emmerich has just announced on Twitter that Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum will be joining the INDEPENDENCE DAY sequel. Extremely pleased to have Goldblum back, I wonder what kind of virus he’ll destroy the alien fleet with this time.

I honestly still can’t believe that this is happening; who’d have thought that we’d get a sequel to INDEPENDENCE DAY twenty years later? Not me, that’s for true.

THR just broke the news that Jessie Usher has been cast in the lead role of INDEPENDENCE DAY 2, a role that is said to be the son of Will Smith’s character.

Usher can currently be seen in the lead role of the Starz series Survivor’s Remorse, a show which I’ve never seen and to be quite honest, had not heard of until this moment. In the series Jessie Usher plays a basketball player who moves to Atlanta with his family after he signs a pro contract. Starz has already renewed it for a second season.

Director Roland Emmerich returns to the director’s chair and will produce the film alongside Dean Devlin and Harald Kloser. INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 will be hitting theaters and deafening our ears on June 24th, 2016.

Now onto the news I really want to know…Are they bringing back Brent Spiner‘s character?
