It was just a matter of time: Zoom-based horror film Host on the way

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

So this was inevitable. With everyone on lockdown and in quarantine – and communicating mainly through Zoom for meetings and social gatherings – it makes sense that the horror genre would find a way to exploit that societal anxiety, ala what UNFRIENDED or SEARCHING did with Skype and other social media apps. In this case it's Shudder's original film HOST, which is about

six friends who hire a medium to hold a séance over Zoom during lockdown, but they get far more than they bargain for as things quickly go wrong. When an evil spirit starts invading their homes, they begin to realize they might not survive the night

Meanwhile, HOST – directed by Rob Savage and starring Haley Bishop, Radina Drandova, Edward Linard, Jemma Moore, Caroline Ward, and Emma Louise Webb – will premiere on Shudder July 30th.

So what do you think? And what other social media apps would make good horror films? Either way, sound off below?
