James Bond: Gemma Arterton has regrets about her Quantum of Solace role

It's been well over a decade since the release of Quantum of Solace, Daniel Craig's second film as James Bond, and although the film certainly isn't bad in my opinion, it's definitely one of Craig's lesser entries of the franchise. Well speaking with The Sun, Quantum of Solace actor Gemma Arterton expressed regret at accepting her role in the film.

Gemma Arterton played Strawberry Fields in Quantum of Solace, an MI6 agent who worked at the British consulate in Bolivia who is seduced by James Bond and later assisted him before meeting her demise in an homage to Goldfinger when she's discovered covered in oil. Right down to the name, Strawberry Fields was a bit of a throwback to the Bond Girls of the past, and Arterton wouldn't accept a role like that today.

At the beginning of my career, I was poor as a church mouse and I was happy just to be able to work and earn a living. I still get criticism for accepting Quantum Of Solace, but I was 21, I had a student loan, and you, know, it was a Bond film. But as I got older I realised there was so much wrong with Bond women. Strawberry should have just said no, really, and worn flat shoes.

Gemma Arterton also commented on the role while speaking with The Telegraph earlier this year, saying "You know, I haven’t seen it for about 15 years either, so I can’t really remember what’s in it or what I did, but I know I wouldn’t choose a role like that now, because she was funny and she was sweet, but she didn’t really have anything to do — or a backstory." Gemma Arterton most recently starred in Black Narcissus, an FX/BBC miniseries that follows a group of nuns who establish a mission school in the Himalayas. Arterton will also be starring in The King's Man, which is now slated for a March 12, 2021 release. As far as James Bond goes, Daniel Craig's fifth and final installment of the franchise, No Time to Die, is set for an April 2, 2021 release.
