Keanu Reeves wants to keep Neo and John Wick out of Mortal Kombat games

The Mortal Kombat franchise is famous for putting fan-favorite film characters in its video games. However, if Keanu Reeves has his way, neither Neo nor John Wick will be among them. In response to a fan question, Keanu Reeves said that while he agrees that Mortal Kombat is “awesome in so many ways,” but the idea of Neo of John Wick joining the roster of fighters doesn’t appeal to him. “If it was up to me, no. Neo, John Wick, they’re doing their own thing. Mortal Kombat’s doing [its] own thing.”

Even Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has expressed interest in having Neo and John Wick join the Tournament of Champions, saying they would have made for great MK11 DLC characters. After all, many icons of the silver screen have joined Mortal Kombat, including Jason Voorhes, Rambo, The Joker, Robocop, Leatherface, and even a Xenomorph from Alien. Now that I think about it. Neo and John Wick would make for great additions to the franchise. I can picture their elaborate move sets right now. Neo could use all sorts of glitch-related tricks and bullet-time techniques to gain an advantage, while John Wick could go ham with guns, knives, and displays of relentless hand-to-hand combat.

Thankfully, Neo fans will be getting plenty of the character when The Matrix: Resurrections hits theaters on December 22.

Per the film’s official synopsis, In a world of two realities—everyday life and what lies behind it—Thomas Anderson will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more. Choice, while an illusion, is still the only way in or out of the Matrix, which is stronger, more secure, and more dangerous than ever before.

The Matrix Resurrections is produced, co-written (with David Mitchell & Aleksander Hemon), and directed by Lana Wachowski. The film marks the fourth installment of The Matrix franchise and will see the return of Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith, Daniel Bernhardt, and Lambert Wilson. Newcomers to the franchise include Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Telma Hopkins, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Brian J. Smith, and Christina Ricci.

Meanwhile, work continues on John Wick 4, which stars Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Clancy Brown, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rina Sawayama, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane. The upcoming sequel is set to be helmed by Chad Stahelski and will continue Mr. Wick’s epic escape from the operators of The Continental and their associates.

Despite Keanu Reeves’ view on the subject, would you like to see Neo or John Wick join the next Mortal Kombat game? Let us know in the comments section below.
