Live-action Secret of NIMH film finds its director

So there's going to be a live-action SECRET OF NIMH film, now titled RATS OF NIMH for some reason. Now, I don't have a problem with live-action remakes of animated films in theory, and have even enjoyed a few of them. So I'm not writhing with anger that they dare touch an animated classic (because, you know, it will still exist afterward). Hell, does anyone even remember that CHARLOTTE'S WEB had a big-budget live-action version? No? Okay then.

Anyway, RATS OF NIMH has just gotten a hold of its new director, and it's…drum-roll please...James Madigan.

Who? Well, apparently Madigan is a VFX supervisor who has directed some second-unit stuff, most recently on the upcoming Jason Statham giant shark movie MEG. As for VFX, he has worked on IRON MAN 2 and even won some Emmys for his work on HBO's ROME.

On the one hand, it's good to get someone working on an effects-laden film to have a background in visual effects. On the other hand, you also need someone to know how to deal with acting, pacing, storytelling, etc., and just because you know the technical aspects, doesn't mean you know the other aspects. I have hope though. SECRETS OF NIMH is a favorite of mine, but I have to admit a live-action version intrigues me.

But what about you guys? Any fans of Don Bluth's SECRETS OF NIMH animated film? And if so, what do you think about a live-action version? Sound off below!
