Mark Ruffalo confirms She-Hulk’s role in Secret Wars

On the cusp of the Disney+ debut of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Marvel Cinematic Universe staple Mark Ruffalo has welcomed the character–and portrayer Tatiana Maslany–to the MCU. In fact, on the red carpet at the premiere of She-Hulk, Ruffalo (aka Hulk/Bruce Banner) all but confirmed Maslany’s place in the forthcoming Avengers: Secret Wars:

She’s in now, there’s not going to be another Avengers without her…That’s what I’m hearing.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Maslany did ask fans to “give [her] one year,” which more astute MCU aficionados could construe as a throwback to Ruffalo’s own casting, as he took over the role from Edward Norton, who portrayed the Mean Green Machine just once.

Ruffalo, whose welcome and approval will no doubt boost excitement, will also appear on the series, in addition to Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/Abomination, Benedict Wong as Wong and Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil.

The official plot: “Jennifer Walters–an attorney specializing in superhuman-oriented legal cases–must navigate the complicated life of a single, 30-something who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk.”

At the premiere, series creator Jessica Gao noted the social significance of a female character’s emotions being portrayed so outwardly:

We have conditioned girls to have a very different relationship to their feelings…They have to temper their emotions a lot more, and there’s a double standard in what we allow in terms of anger from women and from men…”

But don’t worry, there will still be plenty of action: “There’s something of wish fulfillment…They’ll see something in She-Hulk I don’t think they’ve ever seen before, which is the ability to kick ass.”

She-Hulk/Jennifer Walters was first introduced in the Marvel comic in 1980, nearly 20 years after Hulk/Bruce Banner’s own debut. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law debuts on Disney+ on August 18, with nine episodes planned to run through October.
