If you’ve been wondering what writer/director Jared Hess has been up to (NACHO LIBRE, NAPOLEON DYNAMITE), then MASTERMINDS is your answer. A teaser trailer dropped 2 months back for the comedy crime caper (you can check it out below), but we now have 4 character posters presenting the leading men and woman of the film.

The movie, inspired by true events, follows armored car driver David Ghantt (Zach Galifianakis) who plans a heist along with work crush Kelly Campbell (Kristen Wiig) and criminal leader Steve Chambers (Owen Wilson). After he’s double-crossed, David must dodge the authorities, evade hit man Mike McKinney (Jason Sudeikis), and try to turn the tables on the ones he trusted most.

When Jared Hess first made some waves with NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and NACHO LIBRE, there was a real love it or hate it attitude with his work. He definitely has his own brand of comedy, and while I found LIBRE to be a lot of fun, and I think the cast for this movie is pitch-perfect. Coming in towards the end of the summer movie season, MASTERMINDS should be a nice break from all the mayhem we still have yet to sit through.

MASTERMINDS will be released on August 19, 2015.
