MaXXXine: Mia Goth says the third film in X and Pearl trilogy has the best script

Pearl and X star Mia Goth says the script for the third film in the franchise, MaXXXine, is the best script of the trilogy

Back in September, just a few days before director Ti West’s Pearl (watch it HERE) – a prequel to his film X (watch that one at THIS LINK) – reached theatres, production / distribution company A24 announced that they had given the greenlight to a third film in the franchise: MaXXXine. Now Pearl and X star Mia Goth has said that the script for MaXXXine is even better than the scripts for the previous two films.

Speaking with Variety, Goth said, “It’s the best script of the three by far. It’s going be the best movie of the three. We’re all so tight now. This is going to be our third movie we’re working on together and everyone’s coming back together, so it’s bringing the band all back together again. We just have a shorthand with each other. We know how everybody works and we’re all so excited. It’s the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes and Maxine has gone through so much at this point. So when we find her in this new world, she’s just a force to be reckoned with and she goes through some pretty wild adventures.

MaXXXine is being written and directed by West. Goth will be reprising the role of X survivor Maxine Minx, a burlesque performer and adult film actress with the goal of being a star. The film will follow Maxine, after the events of X, as the sole survivor who continues her journey towards fame, setting out to make it as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.

MaXXXine is being produced by A24, Ti West, Jacob Jaffke, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss. Goth serves as executive producer.

Goth confirmed that MaXXXine will begin filming later this year. “I’m in prep with the script, doing my homework, getting everything ready. Then you let it all go once you get to set and just hope that some magic comes from it.

Our friends at Bloody Disgusting reported that West had this to say about MaXXXine: “What I can tell you is that we’re going to catch up with Maxine. And we’re going to find out what she’s up to. The way that X is a movie that is informed by and affected by independent exploitation auteur Americana and 1970s cinema, and Pearl is perhaps affected by the Golden Age of Hollywood and the glitz and glamor of cinema, MaXXXine will be more about within the industry itself and the boom of VHS.

I loved Pearl and X, so I can’t wait to see MaXXXine… and I hope this won’t be the end of the franchise, because I would really like to see at least one film that’s set in between the events of Pearl and X as well.
