Get a more scenic look at paradise in new Alien: Covenant image

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

This has been a pretty good week for anyone looking to get psyched up for Ridley Scott’s ALIEN: COVENANT, with several new photos, and a new prologue that debuted last night. But you know what they say about the good times: just keep them rolling…until the noise volume reaches a point that begins to disturb your neighbors, because that’s just insensitive.  Luckily we aren’t at that point yet, so in keepin’ the good times rolling here is yet another image from the film (via Empire), which shows off a surprisingly scenic locale. The Xenomorphs finally got that timeshare in Tahiti they’ve always talked about.

The scenery is uncharacteristically beautiful compared to the otherwise rocky, sulfury look of other planetary surfaces from the series, complementing an earlier image with some very large, knocked-down trees and the “uncharted paradise” the synopsis describes. Just don’t drink the water. Aliens pee in it all…the…time. Here’s that synopsis:

The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

As well, star Michael Fassbender spoke to the character dynamics of COVENANT, likening them to the first ALIEN movie:

What’s great about this story is the characters are so different. They’re not just filling out a spaceship, their characters have been thought about. It harks back to those really cool characters in the original Alien, where there are great relationships going on outside of the [alien].

So far these images are giving us glimpses at a really unique setting, at least from what I had been expecting for a while. Though we all know how this journey ends up, I'm eager to watch Fassbender and the crew explore this mysterious, hopeful paradise and all its mysteries. It's the kind of place you would want to take a camping trip to, you know, if it weren't for the killer creatures everywhere.

Get ready to explore ALIEN: COVENANT on May 19 with Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Noomi Rapace, James Franco, Billy Crudup and Michael Fassbender.
