Favreau NOT Avenging

Sad news for those who hoped that Jon Favreau would bring his IRON MAN skills to the wobbily AVENGERS project still promised to happen….at some point. Talking to MTV, he confirmed that he would NOT be taking the reigns on the film.

“They’ll have to [find a different director], because I’m not going to be available,” he explained. “It’s something I’m being the executive producer on, so I’ll definitely have input and a say.”

“It’s going to be hard, because I was so involved in creating the world of Iron Man and Iron Man is very much a tech-based hero, and then with ‘Avengers’ you’re going to be introducing some supernatural aspects because of Thor,” he continued. “How you mix the two of those works very well in the comic books, but it’s going to take a lot of thoughtfulness to make that all work and not blow the reality that we’ve created.”

That’s too bad. I wonder if the directors of any of the other films are going to shoot for it, or if the studio will look for an outside force to tie them all together. I still don’t really believe this idea will make for a terribly good movie to begin with, and I can still see it imploding JUSTICE LEAGUE style unless someone starts putting a solid plan in motion.

Head over to MTV for the rest of the interview where Favreau claims Ed Norton is NOT showing up in IRON MAN 2.
