Halloween Kills: Andi Matichak says film needs to be seen on the big screen

Halloween Kills actress Andi Matichak, who plays Laurie Strode's (Jamie Lee Curtis) granddaughter Allyson, is singing the praises of the upcoming sequel and she firmly believes that it needs to be a theatrical experience rather than via streaming VOD.

During a recent interview, Matichak admitted that she hasn't seen the full film yet but director David Gordon Green has shown her clips and sequences that make her believe it's a film that should be seen on the big screen. She also admitted not being too bummed out about the film being a delayed a year because she knew it wouldn't be able to be seen theatrically last October and now moviegoers will have a chance to see the film as intended:

"I've not seen the film in its entirety, [director] David's [Gordon Green] shown me some clips and some sequences of things, but I haven't seen the full film and everything I saw was a temporary score, as well, so I don't know if [composer John] Carpenter's done. Which, to be fair, I kind of don't want to. To see it in a theater, hopefully we can see it in a theater, with just the [big] sound is gonna be epic. I wasn't that bummed [about the delay], if I'm gonna be honest, and the reason is because I would really love if we could see it in a theater and, this past October, there's no way we could. I would have been more okay if this was [the 2018 Halloween] and that needed to go to VOD, fine, it's still a huge bummer, but that type of scale of a movie is at least okay on your home screen. Kills deserves to be in a theater."

I thought it was interesting that she said if the 2018 Halloween had to go to VOD she would've been fine with it because the scale of that film was suited for that kind of release. Matichak's sentiments about Halloween Kills seem to really echo everything we've been hearing building up to the sequel and that is the film is just a much bigger experience. I hate when things get too overhyped but I'm actually here for all of the hype for Halloween Kills because everyone seems to be on the same page that is a true horror/slasher experience and even more of a true genre offering than the 2018 film was. David Gordon Green mentioned last year that Halloween Kills is pretty much the action-packed middle portion of the trilogy that will all come to a head in Halloween Ends:

"When we made the last one we wanted to find a way for someone who's never seen the original to get up to speed with the story. But this one gets right to the action. It's very aggressive. It's more efficient. We wanted it to be an explosive middle before things get streamlined and personal again."

Jamie Lee Curtis returns in Halloween Kills as Laurie Strode and judging from the teasers we have seen so far, it looks like it picks up right where the 2018 film left off. Also returning for the sequel is Judy Greer as Laurie's daughter Karen and, of course, Andi Matichak is on board as Karen's daughter Allyson. Joining the fright for the sequel is Anthony Michael Hall, taking on the role of Tommy Doyle from the original film, and Kyle Richards, reprising her role as Lindsey Wallace from the first film.
