Juan Antonio Bayona could be in running to direct Jurassic World 2

Colin Trevorrow isn't going to be back to direct JURASSIC WORLD 2.

His time is going to be a bit occupied getting a small indie known as STAR WARS: EPISODE IX ready for the screen, and, as such, a search for a new filmmaker to sit at the helm of the dinosaur sequel is nearly upon us... and Juan Antonio Bayona's name may be near the top of the list.

According to speculation by Deadline, his name had been circulating the project awhile back before he became attached to the sequel to WORLD WAR Z. But, in recent weeks, Bayona has become detached from that film, citing scheduling issues that could not be resolved, putting his name back into play for JURASSIC WORLD 2.

Trevorrow and Derek Connolly have been working on the script in the hopes of getting it in a good place before going on the hunt for a director, and they might be in such a position right now. Well... there's that and they'll need to find someone sooner rather than later in order to make Universal's target of a June 22, 2018 release date.

Are other names in consideration for the gig? I'm sure there are a few, but Bayona may right in the middle of the action to land this sequel.
