Michael B. Jordan fathers a superhero son in Netflix’s Raising Dion trailer

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Netflix has unveiled a trailer for its upcoming superhero series RAISING DION. Based on the comic book and short film of the same name by Dennis Liu, RAISING DION tells the story of a woman named Nicole (Alisha Wainwright), who raises her son Dion (newcomer Ja’Siah Young) after the death of her husband, Mark (Michael B. Jordan). The normal dramas of raising a son as a single mom are amplified when Dion starts to manifest several mysterious, superhero-like abilities. Nicole must now keep her son’s gifts secret with the help of Mark’s best friend Pat (Jason Ritter), and protect Dion from antagonists out to exploit him while figuring out the origin of his abilities.

In addition to playing a small part in the series, Jordan also serves as the project's executive producer alongside Dennis Liu and Michael Green. The first season will consist of 10 emotionally-charged episodes that chronicle the evolution of Dion's unique abilities.

As superhero cinema continues to dominate the film and television market, it feels as if everyone is trying to gain their own foothold on the genre. Thankfully, some potentially powerful and original stories are beginning to make their way to the big and small screen. With Jordan lending his passion to the RAISING DION project, I wouldn't be surprised if this series plays supremely well with younger audiences, and helps pave the way for more family-friendly takes on a genre with seemingly limitless potential.

RAISING DION will have its Netflix series premiere on October 4.
