Netflix would love to do season five of Arrested Development and maybe a movie

In three days the entire fourth season of Arrested Development will finally be released on Netflix but could we be seeing more Bluth adventures in the future?

Netflix Content Chief Ted Sarandos had an extensive interview with THR about the upcoming reboot of Arrested Development as well as the company's recent success with some of their original shows like House of Cards and Hemlock Grove. Originally planned for only one new season, Sarandos mentions that there definitely could be another season of Arrested Development but it's not going to be easy considering the cast and crew's work schedules and it wasn't like getting everyone back together for season four was a walk in the park:

We would love to do more, and we have a deal in place that says that there could be. The problem is logistics. They were all working full-time and doing this show in between, and they did it for the love of the show and for Mitch Hurwitz. If we can muster up that love again, we’d love to do it again.

What does that mean for the rumored Arrested Development movie if a fifth season does happen? It isn't clear at this time but Sarandos did mention that they've also "talked openly about a movie scenario".

Ted Sarandos went on to talk about how Arrested Development is a special case and the company isn't going revive any and every show that has a cult following:

There’s no specific agenda around reviving shows as part of our strategy. Arrested Development is unique. If all of the technology that’s in place today were around when Arrested came out, it probably would have been a huge hit. Remember, the show was canceled the same year that we started streaming. Prior to that, the notion of catching up on a show didn’t really exist. For us to consider [reviving a series], it needs to be more than a great show for the people who love it. We need to try and find a bigger audience for it for the economics to make sense. I've not seen anything that was as much a slam dunk as Arrested Development is.

With their original shows and snagging Arrested Development Netflix has made some big waves recently and I'm sure they want to keep riding that success. It wasn't that long ago that the company seemed like it was in trouble, however it does looks like they are rebounding very nicely. But will Netflix be able to sustain paying for some of its new pricier content? That remains to be seen but right now things are going pretty well for Netflix.

Season four of Arrested Development will be available through Netflix on May 26th, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: House of Cards was picked up by Netflix in a staggering $100 million, two-season deal. Looks like it was totally worth it though.
