Shocker! Aubrey Plaza compiles an explicit list in the red band trailer for The To Do List

Aubrey Plaza is pretty damn funny on PARKS AND RECREATION and has assembled a nice career of supporting roles in FUNNY PEOPLE, SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD, SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED and many more. THE TO DO LIST marks her first starring role in a wide release film and this red band trailer sets a pretty good tone for a fun film.

THE TO DO LIST has a similar feel to Emma Stone‘s EASY A crossed with the John Hughes movies of the 1980s. Taking place in the early 90s, there are tons of references and visual cues that make me think back to my high school days. The hard R comedy certainly helps as well.

THE TO DO LIST follows the story of Brandy Klark (Plaza), a Type-A, overachiever who comes up with a “to-do list” featuring all the risqué extra-curricular activities she missed out on in high school and wants to complete before college.

I love the references to positions and sexual moves like the Shocker, Pearl Necklace, and more. Plaza pulls off the obliviousness to these terms in such a way that I could not help but chuckle. With such a talented cast, I hope this movie does well and lives up to the high bar set by this trailer.

THE TO DO LIST starring Aubrey Plaza, Rachel Bilson, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, Scott Porter, Connie Britton, Clark Gregg, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Donald Glover, Johnny Simmons, Sarah Steele and Alia Shawkat opens on July 26, 2013.
