Steven Spielberg: West Side Story trailer promises reimagining of a classic

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It's apropos that Disney chose the Oscars to drop the teaser for Steven Spielberg's long awaited adaptation of the iconic Broadway musical West Side Story, as before COVID hit it was considered the front-runner for this year's Oscars. Of course, the hope is that it'll be a frontrunner at next year's ceremony, and the teaser certainly promises a stylized musical that's distinct from the classic Robert Wise/Jerome Robbins version from 1961.

The film, which stars Rachel Zegler and Ansel Elgort as star-crossed lovers Maria and Tony, will no doubt look amazing on the big-screen when it comes out on December 10th, 2021. In the meantime, do yourself a favor at check out the original when it streams as part of the TCM Classic Film Festival in May on HBO Max!
