Miramax has set Jason Statham as the star to pollinate its upcoming action film, The Bee Keeper. Based on a spec script written by Kurt Wimmer, the project is being hailed as “a lightning-paced thriller deeply steeped in the mythology of Bee Keeping.” Miramax tapped its money tree for seven figures to purchase Wimmer’s script. Meanwhile, the search for a director is currently underway. Statham, Wimmer, and Miramax CEO Bill Block are set to produce.

The Bee Keeper explores universal themes with an unconventional story that will have fans sitting on the edge of their seats. We’re excited to bring another iconic and irresistible film to audiences around the globe,” said Block.

Statham has another Guy Ritchie film set up at Miramax that is currently in post-production. The untitled project is going by the name Five Eyes and focuses on an agent who is recruited by a global intelligence alliance to track down and stop the sale of a deadly weapons technology. The upcoming film also stars Aubrey Plaza, Josh Hartnett, Cary Elwes, and Hugh Grant.

Statham is also slated to reprise his role as Rick Ford for Spy 2. Directed by Paul Feig, the film is a follow-up to the 2015 comedy starring Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, and Jude Law.
