The Night Agent, Shawn Ryan, Netflix

According to Deadline, The Shield creator Shawn Ryan has a new project in the works as he's set to adapt Matthew Quirk's The Night Agent for Netflix. Ryan will serve as showrunner and executive producer of the ten-episode political conspiracy thriller series, with the first episode set to be directed by Seth Gordon (For All Mankind).

The Night Agent is a "sophisticated, character-based, action-thriller centering on a low-level FBI agent who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings — until the night that it does, propelling him into a fast moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads all the way to the Oval Office." Sounds like fun. Shawn Ryan include the novel as one of his favourite novels he read last year, listing The Night Agent in the category of "Books I read, Decided to Adapt for Television and May Have Already Finished Writing the Pilot Episode." Ryan wrote the pilot on spec for Sony Pictures TV, but the project later found a home at Netflix. In addition to The Shield, Shawn Ryan has also developed The Chicago Code, Last Resort, Timeless, and S.W.A.T.
