Tough and gritty trailer and poster for Steven Knight’s Hummingbird starring Jason Statham

Statham is back at it again, this time teaming up with EASTERN PROMISES screenwriter Steven Knight for HUMMINGBIRD, a gritty revenge thriller set in the London underground.  In many ways it looks like the same ol’ same ol’ from Mr. Statham, but at this point, I feel like he’s saturated the market so much that we won’t ever be able to discern between the good and the bad.  Certainly having Knight writing and directing could make this a win in the Statham checkbox, but it’s hard to say.  HUMMINGBIRD does look interesting, though, and not as cheeky or hyperbolic as Stathams usual fare, but a few one man vs. a gang fight scenes could empty that tank real quick.

Take a look:

Here’s the synopsis:

Living homeless after going on the run from a military court-martial, Joey Jones (Statham) is a damaged ex-special forces soldier trapped in London’s criminal underworld. But when opportunity enables him to assume another man’s identity, he is transformed into an avenging angel.

HUMMINGBIRD is set for a UK release on May 17, 2013.
