Trailer for female-led series Star Wars: Forces of Destiny is unleashed

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The STAR WARS universe is vast, spanning countless comic books, EU novels, cartoons, videogames, board games, etc. Hell, even the movies themselves mention events that we don’t get to see (like the Bounty Hunter encounter mentioned prior to EMPIRE STRIKES BACK). So it’s no surprise that Disney is releasing a series of animated shorts focusing on adventures on the periphery of the main story. What’s cool, though, is that these will specifically focus on the female heroes, like Rey, Leia, and Amidala. Daisy Ridley is even providing her own voice for Rey!

Anyway, here’s the new trailer:

And here’s what Kathleen Kennedy had to say about the project:

Star Wars: Forces of Destiny is for anyone who has been inspired by Leia’s heroism, Rey’s courage, or Ahsoka’s tenacity….We’re thrilled that so many of the original actors are reprising their roles in these shorts which capture the small moments and everyday decisions that shape who these characters are. It is a fun new way for people to experience Star Wars.

Personally, I love the idea in concept (it’s similar to the original 2D CLONE WARS shorts), and it’s cool they’ve got most of the original voice actors for the roles. I also love that they’re focusing on the female heroes of STAR WARS. It’s just…they seemed to really skimp on the animation. Looks like it belongs on freakin’ Newgrounds. I’m still down – the action and movement still look cool. It just feels more effort could’ve been put into it.

Meanwhile, FORCES OF DESTINY will premiere their shorts first on YouTube July 3rd then later on Disney Channel July 9th.
