TV spin-off announced for female horror anthology XX

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Back in 2017, we were hit by the killer horror anthology XX directed by Jovanka Vuckovic, Annie Clark, Roxanne Benjamin, and Karyn Kusama. The anthology was made by an all-female team and today we have word that the plan is to bring the film to the small screen with an all-new new spin-off.

Producers Jovanka Vuckovic, Todd Brown, and Raquelle David are in development on the anthology series, which will hire female screenwriters and female directors to bring new scary stories to the small screen.

Producers Jovanka Vuckovic says:

Raquelle [David], Todd Brown and I, are developing XX as a television series, sort of like a Black Mirror, but for women, all written and directed by women.

As to the tone of the series, Vuckovic said:

I know everyone hates the term 'elevated horror.' But let's say 'thinking person's horror,' feminist thinking person's horror.

Now I don't know about you but I'm excited to see XX turned into a TV series. After all, I dug the original film and I will never say no to a new horror anthology TV series. Sure we have Shudder's CREEPSHOW series coming our way sooner rather than later, but I have a feeling with that show's limited number of episodes in its first season, we'll all be hungry for horror anthology goodness on our TV screens quicker than you can say, 'Bring back f*cking TALES FROM THE CRYPT already!'

The hit horror anthology is directed by Jovanka Vuckovic, Annie Clark, Roxanne Benjamin, and Karyn Kusama. Todd Brown and Nick Spicer produced and the film starred Natalie Brown, Melanie Lynskey, Breeda Wool, and Christina Kirk. XYZ Films and Magnet Releasing unleashed the film onto VOD back on February 17, 2017. Our own Chris Bumbray reviewed the flick back at Sundance, and you check out that review here.
